My Thoughts on 2012
My Thoughts on 2012
Much speculation and fear surrounds the supposed “end of the world” expected to be heralded by the chronological year 2012. The theories surrounding this cataclysmic shift on the planet have produced everything from blockbuster movies to “disaster condos”; secret million dollar living arrangements built within the earth to house the wealthy in the face of a global crisis.
As an intuitive and an astrologer, many have asked me to publish my thoughts on the subject and up until now I have chosen not to. My own readings and “Libran” perspectives left the jury out. And while I do not purport to have the definitive answer to “What will happen in 2012?” I do have an astrological insight with which I think will illuminate 2012’s possibilities. That astrological insight is undoubtedly one of the most major astrological phenomena of the year 2012: when the
grandfather Goat planet and master disciplinarian Saturn make it’s historic move into what is arguably the most powerful psychic energy in our known universe: Scorpio. Not only will this planet be making its move into the Scorpio Lens, but it will be in aspect to several planets in the galaxy, namely Pluto, which may have the possibility of producing some quite interesting phenom.
First, some background. The planets are a macrocosm of various psychological aspects that exist within each human. Each planet represents a specific theme. In our case (and in brief) Saturn represents the value of time, discipline, hard work, and restriction.
The themes and energies that each planet represents are colored by the
zodiac lens. The 12 Zodiac lenses are not “personalities”, but they are
better understood as “expressions” that are apart of a much larger
organizing pattern that exists within the universe. The Zodiac lenses
are not the definitive organizing patterns of reality but in actuality
are simply the 12 lenses that ancient Africans used to order universal energy that we who practice western astrology have inherited.
Much like the concept of two “genders” these zodiac energies are themselves social constructs. Energy is ultimately not bound by humans’
limited abilities to perceive and order. The system works because humans collectively co-create it. Reality responds to the observer.
Seeing 12 lenses of expression is like looking at the rainbow. We have
been taught that there are 7 colors; but, in actuality, rainbows possess infinite hues. But because we have decided to order our understanding into 7 colors (and because for many, 7 colors are all we can see) it has become true and in some ways is useful. Perception and projection: such is the power of sentient life in the galaxy.
When a planet that possesses a specific theme orbits the galaxy, it moves into quadrants of this galaxy that astrologers and many
astronomers have named after a specific zodiac expression. For
instance, when someone says “You are a Capricorn” what they are saying
is that from our view on earth, the sun was in the quadrant of the
galaxy named Capricorn and that because of that placement of the sun
at your birth you will be imbued with that energy. That energy will
inevitably be expressed through various characteristics.
In short; the energy that heralded your beginning as an autonomous being marks and colors your expression throughout your life.
So why is Saturn in Scorpio so deep? Why should we be concerned about
this placement?
One answer: for millions of people on this planet the Saturn in
Scorpio will be their Saturn Return! And if anyone has any familiarity
with the karmic energy any Saturn return brings then you know that
pairing Saturn with Scorpio—an energy which is both transcendent and
vengeful—means big shit.
It means you may even want to invest in a “disaster condo.”
Let me explain further.
Saturn takes 27-28 years to completely orbit the galaxy. When it completed its orbit to the place it was when you or anyone else was born, you have entered your Saturn Return. Saturn return is a time
period when the planet accrues all the karma from this 28 year old period (i.e. unresolved behaviors, psychological challenges, and emotional hurdles or material lessons) and puts them smack dab on your
doorstep. This is often a painful time, but aha! Saturn is here to
teach us the value of pain for growth. Psychology names the Saturn Return differently but acknowledges also a 27-28 year cycle, one in which most marriages end and there is a radical unsettling of the psyche. From an astrological perspective that unsettling is none other than Papa/Mama Saturn.
Many of the most recent Saturn in Scorpio Generation were born from 1982-1987.
Saturn was not always in Scorpio during this time, so check your
birth chart. This generation comes directly after the first wave of
indigo and crystal children ( i.e. what some name the first generation of children born with innate transcendental cosmic consciousness).
This generation has often been named, not ironically, by many to be the
most “apathetic of generation” and perhaps rightfully so. You see the
placement of Saturn in Scorpio bears some specific qualities. These qualities will vary dramatically by the individual house placement;
but here’s a glimpse:
Saturn “restricts” the expression of Scorpio for those born with this placement.
This generally alludes to:
1) A lack of depth and awareness of the unconscious. Scorpio is all about delving deep, but Saturn restricts this expression. Individuals are likely to not desire to or for some factor, may not be able to engage their unconscious. As a coping mechanism Saturn will have produced pains where surface level phenomenon, or earth based realities, are far more comfortable.
2) A subdued sexual expression, which could mean intimacy much later in
life (due to an intense fear), radical fear of being dominated or subdued (which is only a further extension of the prior)
3) “Spiritual Superficiality”: which means a conscious adoption of spiritual systems
that the individual does not believe in unconsciously, but then there
is no connection to the unconscious so they will go in sync with the tradition.
These are just some very light possibilities typical of the “Saturn in Scorpio generation.”
So what happens when these folks have their Saturn return? Uh oh.
That stifled sexuality? Explodes in either extreme conservatism and backlash against sexuality itself, or a radical sexual expression; and every where in between. That
spiritual superficiality? Could erupt into a Zionist anger. That fear of being dominated? Could lead to an intense domination of others.
The Unconscious will come home to roost.
And this is the truth for everyone on the planet because everyone
will feel it.
So if I could sum up 2012 Saturn, I would sum it up as this: Many facets
of the Human Unconscious will surface, and what we will see will be all the ugly ideological gunk that the vast majority of humans have not even gotten ankle deep into. The Hatred of women, the Hatred between races, religions and self will surface like a ten-ton pile of horse shit in a swimming pool. And it will likely, be just that proportionate. However, Saturn is not just the symbol of the Scorpio but the eagle as well.
Synonymously, we will begin to see new spiritual leaders emerge, perhaps even new whole and loving traditions or religions; new ways of relating to earth and art and life will become more prominent; in some ways the “marginalized” will become much more “mainstream” and we may, just may, develop a different relationship to death, sexuality and the transcendental. The likes of which we may have never had before. This is will be what Dickens said “The best of times and the worst of times”. Which is what every moment in fact already is.
Mind you I haven’t even talked about the fact that Pluto, the planet of the underworld and destruction, will be imbuing Saturn in Scorpio in an arrangement that would make any astrologer…nervous.
Does this mean you will need a disaster condo? Not necessarily. Is this anything we haven’t seen before? We’ve seen it and we haven’t seen it.
And let me be clear, too. Time is not linear. In cannot be ordered into neat boxes and squares on your calendar. Time flows beyond measurement. Just as the past is accessible to you now, so too is the future. The year 2012 is already here. It has been here for some time. There will be and have already been several culminating points, but it’s not likely to be the same as the 2012 blockbuster (though I do believe Gaia, the sentient energy of the earth, has quite a few tricks for us coming).
So what would I say you should do in the meantime?
Know thy self. Study yourself and your issues.
Develop a spiritual discipline.
Question your beliefs.
Learn to live sustainably. Develop a skill that could be useful in
day to day survival.
Reach out to others. Build community.
You’ll need it. We’ll all need it. We’ve always needed it.
So that’s it.
More to come.
