I love this video because it illustrates the ridiculousness of normative masculinity. The typical “gay hunt” that happens in black culture stems from rigid and narrow stipulations that hetero men can never exhibit or express a range of silliness, emotion, or expression without having their attraction to women come into question. But what the video shows, is that many of the behaviors that black hetero men engage in, such as dick measurement, and though its not shown here, group masturbation, greatly blur the established guidelines for what black masculinity “should be”. When we scratch the surface of patriarchal masculinity, we find that beneath the guise of hardness all men:are just boys at heart, with a range of expression that should never be held to such rigorous narrow standards. The sexism and trans phobia and homophobia is dissapointing, but realistic. I think its a great learning tool.
